Code of Ethics

Mindfully Hannah strives to uphold an ethical practice in the service of teaching meditation and mindfulness, and therefore operates abiding with the following ethical principles and professional standards:

  • I have obtained an externally accredited professional qualification from the British School of Meditation (BSoM) which qualifies me as a Meditation Teacher and allows me to use the letters DipBSoM after my name. I am qualified to teach individuals and groups but cannot train others to be Meditation Teachers.
  • I maintain paid registration with the BSoM which enables me to continue with ongoing professional development, use of the BSoM logo within my own business, and promotion of my services within the BSoM network. I am also therefore bound within the code of ethics of BSoM teachers, from which this code has been adapted.
  • I maintain insurance covering Professional, Public and Product Liability to ensure safety of myself and my clients.
  • I hold an up-to-date regular DBS certificate which can be viewed on request. I do not hold an enhanced DBS check and therefore do not currently offer services for anyone under the age of 18.
  • I maintain accurate records of client information in accordance with the Data Protection Act and current GDPR legislation and am registered with the ICO.
  • I hold a full medical degree (MBBS) and have practised medicine within the NHS from August 2019 to March 2024 and therefore draw on my professional knowledge and experience in many aspects of my work at Mindfully Hannah. I am still registered with the GMC but no longer hold a license to practise and will therefore never offer medical advice or claim to operate as a medical doctor in any capacity through Mindfully Hannah.

In my role as a Meditation Teacher, I am personally responsible for the following:

  • Creation and maintenance of a safe and healthy environment for students and self at all times.
  • Treating all people with equal respect and consideration at all times, without judgement or discrimination.
  • Maintaining confidentiality* at all times on personal matters disclosed by students during individual or group discussions, unless consent has been obtained to breach confidentiality.
  • Ensuring relationships between myself and clients remain strictly professional. I assert the right to cease professional relationships if personal/professional boundaries are crossed.
  • When hiring public and community venues for group classes, I ensure to check and adhere to the rules and regulations of the building. This includes signing in and out registers, familiarising everyone with fire exits and evacuation assembly points before meditation sessions begin, having a legal duty towards RIDDOR which consists of reporting any accidents or incidents on site, and having knowledge of any possible building dangers and any known contagious diseases on site.
  • Maintaining the professional standards outlined above with regards to my own professional development, keeping accurate records in line with legislation, having valid insurance and criminal record checks.
  • Dealing with any grievances in accordance with Mindfully Hannah’s formal grievance policy.
  • Allowing access to proof of my qualifications if requested.
  • Maintaining my own meditation practice and ongoing development in this area.
  • Maintaining and enhancing the reputation of the BSoM as one of their registered members.

*Exceptional circumstances may prevent me from seeking client consent to a breach of confidence due to the urgency and seriousness of the situation, for example, preventing the client causing serious harm to self or others. In such circumstances I hold an ethical responsibility to act in ways which balance the client's right to confidentiality against the need to communicate with others. I acknowledge I would be ethically accountable for any breach of confidentiality.
